All are welcome as we step into the mystery and celebrate the wonder of Christmas together. Whether you’ve been at All Souls for decades or have never set foot in a church, whether you’re visiting from out of town or are a curious neighbor, if you’ve been burned by the church but are wondering what might be here for you, come. You are welcome here, this Christmas – wherever you’ve been and wherever you are headed next. There are four different ways to celebrate Christmas at All Souls:
4 pm: Festive Eucharist with Children’s Nativity Story
Step into this story again with our lively, comical and heartfelt retelling starring the kids and youth of All Souls. It is an ideal service to bring young children to, with ways for everyone to participate. There will be lively music, including many favorite Christmas carols. We’ll share communion, light candles, lift our prayers, and head home in time for an early dinner. If your child would like to take part in the pageant as an angel or a sheep, contact Liz and plan to come to the dress rehearsal December 21 from 1:30-3:30 pm.
8 pm: Carols and Candlelight
In the midst of the whirlwind of the holidays, this is a time to slow down, catch your breath, and be still in the presence of the Holy. It’s a paperless service, so you don’t have to worry about finding your place — you can just be. We’ll sing, we’ll share communion, we’ll watch as the light spreads from candle to candle. This is the embodiment of that silent night, that holy night — a chance to anchor ourselves to the hope that comes in this Christ child.
10:30 pm: Midnight Mass
Even in the dark of night, this light shines forth! Our Midnight Mass, beginning at 10:30 pm, is the festive celebration as we ring in Christmas, full of tradition but with an All Souls flavor. You can expect wonderful Christmas music, complete with a string quartet and trumpet, the beauty of communion, and time to be family together. We’ll continue the celebration with a festive reception after the service. Note that there will be incense at this service.
10 am: Festive Eucharist
Sing glorious Christmas Carols, share communion, enjoy the warmth together.
