Amnesty International and Death Penalty Action

Occasionally, the Peace and Justice committee makes a table available as part of the coffee hour following the 10:00 am service. Letters on issues of importance to Amnesty International are prepared for parishioners to read and sign. Generally these are directed to government officials for cases involving prisoners of conscience. In some instances the letters address larger issues such as hostile activity or invasion of one nation by another, or hostile action or abuse of one category of persons toward another.

The committee also presents opportunities for parishioners to become informed about, and to take action regarding, the death penalty and other criminal justice issues. Petitions for moratorium on the death penalty are made available, as are opportunities to send letters to officials regarding particular cases for persons sentenced to death.
