Participate in, Support Church Services:

Acolytes: Young parishioners, usually teens, who are robed and assist with the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service and special services. Training is provided.
       Kevin James, contact

Altar Guild: Prepare and care for the church altar and sanctuary whenever services are held in the main church or in the chapel. Care for and maintain vessels and vestments associated with worship services. Work in teams according to a schedule. Training provided.

Angel Band: Explore music outside the western classical tradition, including American folk music, early American hymns, spirituals, and world folk music at almost every Sunday 10:00 am service. Wednesday rehearsal 8:00 p.m.

Choir: Participate in 10:00 a.m. Sunday service and on other occasions as appropriate. The choir at All Souls performs a variety of traditional sacred music from every major period of European history. Sunday rehearsal at 8:30 a.m.

Healing Ministry: Supports and trains those who are or wish to be commissioned to lay on hands during Sunday worship, those who are interested in other healing activities, or want to learn more about Christian healing. Meets 4th Wednesday of every month, 7:30 p.m.

Intercessory Prayers: Lead the Prayers of the People at the 10:00 Sunday service and at other special services.

Lectors: Read the appointed passages from the Old and New Testaments during the Sunday services at 8:00 am and 10:00 am and for special services.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM): Assist with the Eucharist at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service and other special services. Training is provided, licensing is required.

LEM I: Lay people who serve at the altar during church services.

LEM II: Lay people who administer the Eucharist to parishioners unable to attend church services. Serve according to a prepared schedule.

Sunday School Assistance: Serve as a Sunday School classroom assistant on a rotating basis for our preschool and K-3rd grade children.

Ushers & Oblators: Ushers: greet church-goers at the door and assist with placing worshippers at the communion rail at the 10:00 am Sunday service, and other special services. Oblators: carry the Eucharistic elements (bread and wine) to the altar at the appointed time during the 10:00 am Sunday service, and other special services.

Adult Education Committee: Plan and organize educational programs throughout the year.

Monday Night Bible Study: Self-led Bible reading group. Participants use commentaries and other resources as desired. Readings selected in advance by group decision. Attendance flexible.

Thursday Morning Bible Study: Bible study as the history of our past relationship with God and how this helps us in continuing this relationship.

Adult Formation Class: A three-part exploration of the Christian faith for those seeking deeper knowledge of this faith and also for those who wish to prepare for baptism and confirmation. Fall class covers Christian basics. Spring class is a short course on the sacraments of the Christian life. Winter class is lay-led program on spiritual formation. Those desiring baptism or confirmation should plan to take all three courses.

Vocations Committee: Assist parishioners in their discernment of ministry whether lay ministry or holy orders. Prospective committee members are recommended to the Rector for approval. Meets monthly.

Participation in Outreach Programs to the Parish and to the Community:

Berkeley Food Pantry: Bring imperishable contributions of food to church on Sunday morning and place them in the basket provided at the rear of the church. Designated volunteers take contributions to the Pantry twice monthly after they have been blessed at a Sunday service. No glass jars, please.

Christmas Toy Drive: Provide new toys and games for needy children under 12 for a collection at All Souls before Christmas. Toys distributed through the Salvation Army and other organizations.

Environmental Team: Help understand and act on how our care for the earth is an integral part of social justice. Sponsors events such as Earth Day, St. Francis Day, and wildflower and bird walks.

Kyakameena Nursing Home Services: Assist with monthly worship service as a ministry to the residents of the Kyakameena skilled nursing facility in Berkeley.

Lay Pastoral Care: Participate in an informal group ready to respond to individual needs of parishoners as they are known, such as rides to Sunday or weekly services, meals to families of newborn or newly adopted children.

Open Door Dinner: Assist at the dinner for the community's hungry held the 2nd Sunday of each month; help cook food, set up tables, serve, or clean up. 2:00 - 6:00 pm.

Outreach Committee: Help promote All Souls' services to the community beyond the parish membership, providing food for the body, mind, and spirit. Meets 1st Wednesday of each month.

Peace & Justice Committee: Help address social justice issues by participating in events such as topical Sunday forums, Earth Day, St. Francis Day, peace vigils, and writing letters to prisoners of conscience. Meets 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Theater Committee: Bring your talent for acting, costume creation, and set building to the Theatre of the Sacred Soul and participate in performances held at the church for the parish and greater community.

Women's Spirituality Group: Meet with women of all ages for prayer and a chance to share life experiences from a spiritual perspective.

Strengthen Communication with the Parish and the Community

Communications Committee: Help All Souls stay connected by broadcasting our message to the parish and greater communities through cards, fliers, the web site, and banners, as well as publicity and advertising. Meets the 4th Wednesday of every month.

The Pathfinder Newsletter: Write for the monthly parish newsletter and/or assist with monthly mailing.

Make New Friends, Share Interests, Help the Parish Grow

Children and Youth Committee: Provides leadership and support for ongoing children and youth programs, special activities, and fund raising

Feasts and Celebrations: Assist with special events in the parish through the year such as Mardi Gras and Epiphany Feast.

Greeters: Greet church-goers at Sunday and Special services, introduce newcomers at coffee hour after the 10:00 am service, and deliver "greeter bread" to new members' homes.

Hospitality: Provide light refreshments in the parish hall after the 10:00 am Sunday service, and assist in providing hospitality on other special occasions.

Lunch Bunch: Enjoy an informal potluck lunch held every Thursday in the parish hall, after the noon healing service. Everyone is welcome!

Membership Committee: Create a variety of activities to welcome and integrate newcomers into the parish community. Organize wine and cheese events held several times a year.

Spaghetti, Again? Dinner: Men’s fellowship dinner held monthly on the last Monday of the month; small charge for food. Annual holiday dinner open to men and partners. Social hour 6:00-7:00 p.m. (or come when you can); dinner at 7:00 p.m.

Young Adults: Build community and explore faith with other young adults (20s & 30s) through social, educational, and spiritual activities.

Youth Groups: Assist with a variety of activities and events for our middle school and high school youth, including social activities, programs for spiritual growth, and fundraisers.

Help the Parish Meet Its Commitments

Audio-Visual System: Operate the sound system at the 10:00 a.m. service on Sunday. Occasionally operate small audio/visual system for special parish hall events and/or a visual system including screen, overhead projector, and/or slide projector. Volunteers may sign up for any or all of these tasks.

E-Scrip Program: Participate in a program that provides money for youth and children’s programs at All Souls based on a percentage of purchases you make with credit or debit cards.
