Lenten Offerings
Nets for Life
Throughout Lent in 2009 we invited people to save money in little net bags to purchase malaria nets through the Nets for Life program and Episcopal Relief and Development. Each net costs $12 and saves three lives. On Easter Sunday we had an ingathering of all of our net bags and the total amount raised was $5000! Additionally, parishioner who recently moved out of the area read about our efforts in the Pathfinder, and offered to make a contribution to take us up to an even $6000 in memory of her husband who spent his career working in tropical medicine, and specifically malaria.
On Sunday April 26th the children of the parish processed into the church carrying paper figurines representing the number of lives saved. Each of the 150 figurine “people” represents 10 lives for a total of 1500 lives saved!
