The Rev. Phil Brochard

Phil (he/him) joined the staff as the 12th Rector of All Souls in 2008. Phil is a native of the Bay Area, having been born in San Francisco and grown up in Oakland. He completed his undergraduate work in media and education at the University of California, Berkeley, and worked in broadcasting in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Sponsored for ordination from the Diocese of California, he received his Masters of Divinity at the General Theological Seminary, gaining a national perspective on the Episcopal Church. He came to All Souls from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walnut Creek, where he served as the Associate Rector.

Phil loves to practice creating and re-creating Christian community in a variety of forms, enough that he co-authored a book about it, “Vital Christian Community: Twelve Characteristics of Healthy Congregations.” Connected to this work, he’s a leader with the College for Congregational Development, where he delights in helping congregations of all sizes and kinds learn ways to become more fully who God has called them to be.

Beyond church, Phil loves spending time outdoors in many forms––fly fishing in rivers, kayaking on lakes, and backpacking in the Sierras. He and his family are slowly but surely visiting as many national parks and minor league ballparks as they can.

Phil’s regular working days at All Souls are Sunday through Thursday, and his areas of focus are: Adult Formation, Finances, Justice & Peace, Leadership, Liturgy, and Stewardship.
